You can access your Dashboard by logging into CaseFileXpress with your user-id and password and click on the trace number or notification that received the “Alert."

Most Common Reasons for Filing Rejections

Submitted Case Numbers Not Found

Your case number is not valid. Please go to the court’s website to look up your case number: https://www.dccourts.gov/cco

DC bar # not found

Make sure you registered in CaseFileXpress with your DC Bar number. Your bar number must be six (6) digits. If you are new to the DC Bar, please contact the DC Civil Clerk's office at 202-879-1133 or at civildocket@dcsc.gov to be added to the court's case management system before you attempt to eFile. You will need to provide the following information: your title, name, bar number, work address, and phone number. Please know, it can take up to 30 days for your bar number to be added to the court's case management system. If you have a 5-digit bar number, please add a leading zero. If you are filing Pro Hac, please register with the bar number, "999999". If you are already registered in CaseFileXpress, you may log in and click on View/Update Profile under Account Settings on the Dashboard to update your bar number.

Attachment only; main pleading not filed

You have only filed your exhibits / attachments you must include a Motion, Praecipe, Notice, etc. as a lead document with your supporting documents.

Bar Number Missing / Invalid

Make sure you registered with your DC Bar Number. Your bar number must be 6-digits. If you are new to the bar it takes about 30 days for your bar number to be added to the courts database. If you have a 5-digit bar number, please add a leading zero. If you are filing Pro Hac, register with the bar number: “999999”. If you already registered. You can login with your user-id and password and from the “Your Account” screen, click on “Update Your Profile” to update your bar number.

Cannot Accept / Previous Filing Rejected

If an opposing counsel’s filing was rejected, then you should not eFile your response until they re-file and the clerk accepts their filing. Please go to the court’s website to verify the status of your case before filing your pleading: https://www.dccourts.gov/cco

Case Certified Out of the Civil Division

Your case is no longer a civil case. Please go to the court’s website to look up the docket information for your case before filing your pleading: https://www.dccourts.gov/cco

Certificate Regarding Discovery Required

Pursuant to Rule Promulgation Order 07-04, a Certificate Regarding Discovery that has occurred in the case must be filed as an attachment with any of the following three filings:  (1) a motion regarding discovery; (2) an opposition to a dispositive motion based on the need for discovery; and (3) a motion to extend Scheduling Order dates. Please refer to SCR Civil 5(d).

Certificate of Service Page Doesn't Match Title of Filing

Please correct and resubmit the filing.

Case Removed to US District Court

Your case has been moved to the US District Court. Please go to the court’s website to look up the docket information for your case before filing your pleading: https://www.dccourts.gov/cco/

Cert of Services is required/not dated/outdated/not signed

You must include a certificate of service with your filing and it must be dated and signed. You may use a digital signature, a "/s/", or print the document, sign it and scan it.

Corrupted Electronic

Document/Not Readable. If the document you eFiled cannot be opened by the clerk, please contact File & ServeXpress customer support for assistance.

Cover Letter

Cover letter not filed with the court.

Default / Judgment Entered

Filing cannot be accepted. Default / Judgment as been entered. Please go to the court’s website to look up the docket information for your case: https://www.dccourts.gov/cco/

Discovery Not Accepted

You may not eFile your Discovery documents. You can use CaseFileXpress to send Discovery documents to opposing counsel. In Step 1 of the filing process, click “Discovery – Opposing Counsel Only” from the drop down list. We will not file with the court, clerk or judge.

Distribution List not attached to Order

Please include a distribution list and resubmit filing.

Duplicate Order

You have submitted a duplicate order.

Duplicate Pleading

You have submitted a duplicate pleading.

Email Order Directly to Judge

Order must be emailed in its native format to Judge's Inbox.

Fee

$20 Fee Required for Approval from the Court.

Final Disposition Entered

The final disposition on the case was entered and the case is closed.

Initial Complaints Cannot be Accepted

Original Complaints cannot be eFiled at this time and must be filed traditionally.

Lead Document Must Contain Caption/Case Number/Title

Please correct your lead document and resubmit filing.

Letters not filed with the Court

Letters may not be filed with the court.

Litigant is IFP

No Consent From Parties

If filing a consent motion, all parties/attorneys representing parties must sign the consent. A “/s/” as described above may be used. Please retain documentation such as an email that all parties/attorneys gave consent.

No Fee Required to Supplement a Motion

Opp Cannot be Accepted/Opposing Mot.Reject/Not Filed

Order Rejected

Order must be dated and signed.

An Order is Required with The Filing of a Motion

You must include a proposed order with a motion. Be sure to also email a copy of the proposed order in a Microsoft Word or Word Perfect version to the judge. In the subject line, include the case number followed by the case title. For judge email addresses see above.

Party Added Without Court Approval

Only the court can approve a new party to the case.
